Bighorn Outdoors Youth Camps
Bighorn Youth Adventure Program - 1st Annual Cutt Slam
Activity Description: this adventure is limited to 6-8 youth ages 10-18. We
will start in Kemmerer, Wyoming embarking on a unique adventure to catch and
document the fishing for the 4 species of native cutthroat trout. This
accomplishment is called the "cutt slam. The concept of the cutt slam was
initiated by Ron Remmick of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.
This is the legacy of Ron, as unfortunately he succumbed to cancer December
5, 2002. The four species include Bonneville, Colorado River, Snake River
and Yellowstone.
Tentative Trip Schedule:
August 9 - leave Kemmerer, Wyoming traveling to the Smith's Fork and fish
for the Bonneville Cutt. Camp on the Smith's Fork or the head of the Grey's
River.
August 10 - Fish for the Snake River Cutt on the Grey's River and travel
down the river to McDougal Gap road dropping over the top into the North and
South Cottonwood Drainages, we will camp at CK Hunting and Fishing Camp. We
will fish for the Colorado River Cutt in the Cottonwood drainages.
August 11 - Fish for the Colorado River Cutt and then travel through Hoback
Canyon into Jackson, Wyoming. We will fish for the Snake River Cutt in the
Hoback river if necessary. At this point we must have 3 species for each
fisherman, we then travel through Dubois, Wyoming and will stop at the
National Bighorn Shep Interpretive Center. We will continue traveling and
stop for a swim in Thermopolis, WY. Then we will stay at log home on the
banks of the Greybull River near Meeteetse, Wyoming.
August 12 - Fish for the last trout for your slam, the Yellowstone. Relax
and get cleaned up. We may also travel up the Wood River and explore the
old gold mining town of Kirwin.
August 13 - travel to Cody, Wyoming and receive your cutt slam certificates
from the Governor of the State of Wyoming - Dave Freudenthal. travel back to
Kemmerer, Wyoming.
(This schedule will be adjusted according to our catch and success of
securing each species)
